About the artist:
Sarah Nichols graduated from the University of North Carolina with a master’s degree in business. Teaching business became her vocation but her avocation for the past thirty years has been painting – first in oil and later in watercolor. Her art education has not only been from workshops but from the art books in her extensive library. Her work may be found in several galleries in the mountain areas of Georgia and North Carolina.
The sight of fog lying low in the mountain valleys, wild flowers ablaze along the highways and the beautiful sunsets over Lake Chatuge have been the inspiration for my transparent watercolor paintings.
I have two primary goals when I paint – to convey emotion and to paint light. I would like the viewer to be able to follow the light through a painting and to feel the emotions I felt when looking at the scene. Before starting a painting, I jot down these goals, including the specific emotions I felt and I try to keep them in mind as I paint.

Workshops with noted watercolor artists Judi Betts, Tony Couch, Mary Alice Brockman, Cheng-Khee Chee, Margaret Martin, Robbie Laird, Don Getz, Zoltan Zabo and others have helped me capture a small part of the magic of the wonderful media of watercolor. I continue to attend workshops and feel that each artist imparts something which I can incorporate into my own style to help me render my personal visions on paper.
