CLASS SCHEDULE OF July 17, 2010
Saturday, July 17 - 1 – 3 pm – Toothbrush Rug Class
Learn to make a mat or rug using a tool originally fashioned from a toothbrush. The class fee is $10. Roberta Stetson is the instructor, and she will provide all supplies for $20.
Monday, July 19 – 1 – 4 pm – Painting on Glass
Learn how to paint on glass. Ideas and patterns will be provided for your own designs. Paint and other supplies are provided or lent, but students should bring their own glassware and a pair of fabric gloves. The class fee is $15. Verlee Jones is the instructor, and she will provide paint and other supplies for $7.
Saturday, July 24 – 1 – 4 pm – Candlewicking
Learn how to embellish linens and make a pin cushion using candlewick, a type of embroidery that frontier women used. The Class Fee is $15. Roberta Stetson is the instructor, and she will provide all supplies for $10.
Monday, July 26 – 1 – 3 pm – Broomstick Lace
Learn how to use the basic crochet stitches of chain and single stitch on a “broomstick” to make a Broomstick Lace Scarf. One needs only basic knowledge of crochet chain stitch and single crochet. The Class Fee is $10. Roberta Stetson is the instructor, and she will provide all supplies for $12.
Friday, July 30 – 10 am – 3 pm – Locker Hook Mat
Learn to make a 10”x10” lockerhook mat with Instructor Joani Clinton. The Class Fee is $25. A kit of needle, canvas mesh, and wine is available for $10. Fabric strips are available in golds and greens for an additional fee of about $25. Student needs to bring at least 2 yds of fabric cut into 1” strips (43” fabric).
Saturday, August 14 – 1 – 3 pm – Chicken Scratch Embroidery
(Also known as Snowflake Embroidery)
Make a potpourri bag using straight stitches done on gingham check fabric. The Class Fee is $10. Roberta Stetson is the instructor, and she will provide all supplies for $10.
Monday, August 16 – 1:30 – 3:30 pm – Hairpin Lace Crochet
Using basic knowledge of crochet chain stitch and single crochet stitch, make a bookmark using the Hairpin Lace Stitch. The Class Fee is $10. Roberta Stetson is the instructor, and she will provide all supplies for $20.

Thursday, July 1 – 2 pm – 4 pm. Make a patriotic bird with stars and stripes. Also, paint an optional heart plaque or sign in Julie Sibley’s Class “Red, White & Blue Day.”
Tuesday, July 6 – 10:30 am – noon. Learn basic paper folds, fold language, and the techniques that will help you with more advanced projects. Fold the crane, frog, and paper game in Mimi Hitselberger’s Class “Origami 2.”
Tuesday, July 6 – 2 pm – 3:30 pm. Know your tools for drawing in charcoal. Learn all the basic skills that help you draw anything you wish to draw in Mimi Hitselberger’s Class “Basic Drawing in Charcoal.”
Wednesday, July 7 – 10 am – 3 pm. Paint a “Treats” Box for your dog. You will work on brush skills with acrylic paints in Jeanne Matheny’s Class “Doggy Treat Box.” For Ages 10 – 13. This is an all-day class and students will have to bring a sack lunch and a drink. Last day to register: Friday, July 2. Class Fee is $10.
Thursday, July 8 – 10 am – noon. Create a critter pen with polymer clay and ballpoint pens in Cheryl Gehring’s Class “Polymer Clay Pens.”
Thursday, July 8 – 1 pm – 3 pm. Create a great geometric design with colorful string by wrapping around nails in Cheryl Gehring’s Class “Geometric String Art.” More patterns will be available for those who have taken this class before.
Monday, July 12 – 10 am – noon. Learn polymer clay techniques, create beads, combine with wire for a one-of-a-kind bracelet or necklace in Cheryl Gehring’s Class “Wire & Polymer Clay Jewelry.”
Monday, July 12 – 1 pm – 3 pm. Create a butterfly, bee, and ant with pony beads then with glass beads to be put on a ribbon to be worn as a necklace in Cheryl Gehring’s Class “Beadlings.” If you took a previous beadling class, additional beadlings will be available.
Tuesday, July 13 – 10:30 am – noon. Sculpt in Model Magic and paint your sculpture in bright colors in Mimi Hitselberger’s Class “Sculpture in Clay.”
Tuesday, July 13 – 2 pm – 3:30 pm. Learn what it takes to draw in perspective – where to place objects, how things look in the air and more in Mimi Hitselberger’s Class “Perspective Drawing.”
Wednesday, July 14 – 10 am – 12:30 pm. Paint a canvas pouch with make-up designs using acrylic and sparkle paints in Jeanne Matheny’s Class “Girl’s Make-up Pouch.” For Ages 10 – 13.
Wednesday, July 14 – 2 pm – 4 pm. Find out how 3 primary colors make every color in the world. Paint with colors that let the light show through your ideas and your designs in Julie Sibley’s Class “Watercolor Painting.”
Thursday, July 15 – 10 am – noon. Braid a friendship bracelet using a Japanes e kumihimo disk and colorful yarn in Anne Wolf’s Class “Friendship Bracelet.”
Thursday, July 15 – 2 pm – 4 pm. Find out about primary colors and the science of color mixing in Julie Sibley’s Class “Watercolor Painting.” Ages 8 – 13.
Monday, July 16 – 9 am – noon. Learn how to sew by making a colorful pair of colorful pj drawstring shorts in Marilyn Bostrom’s and Joy Garcia’s Class “Beginning Sewing.”
Tuesday, July 20 – 10 am – 1 pm. Paint a box for birdseed or other treats or treasures using acrylic paints in Jeanne Matheny’s Class “Bird Seed Box with Birdhouse Designs.”
Tuesday, July 20 - 2 pm – 3:30 pm. Understand color and how it works, inspires, moves, and mixes in Mimi Hitselberger’s Class “Color Theory in Paint.”
Wednesday, July 21 – 10 am – 1 pm. Assemble and paint a birdhouse with acrylic paint and embellish it in Jeanne Matheny’s Class “Birdhouse.” Last Day to Register July 15.
Wednesday, July 21 – 2 pm – 4 pm. Select or create a line design to draw on fabric and then color with pigments to make a line resist painting. When held up to the light, these look like stained glass. Take the “Textile Design 1 Class” with Instructor Julie Sibley. Ages 8 – 13.
Thursday, July 22 – 2 pm – 4 pm. Continue your exploration of designs with the addition of new techniques. Watch the mysterious movements of salt dyeing and try out new patterns with sponges and stamps in Julie Sibley’s Class “Textile Design 2.” New students are also welcome. Ages 8 – 13.
Tuesday, July 27 – 10 am – 12:30 pm. Paint 2 heart pins (and a small gourd if time permits) using acrylic paints in Jeanne Matheny’s Class “Heart Pins X 2.” Designs are on display at ArtWorks.
Wednesday, July 28 – 10 am – 12:30 pm. Paint a “Kool Kat” on a canvas bag using acrylic paints and decorate it with lace and buttons in Jeanne Matheny’s Class “Kool Kat Canvas Bag.”
Monday, August 2 – 9 am – noon. Learn how to sew by making an all-purpose tote bag in Marilyn Bostrom’s and Joy Garcia’s Class “Beginning Sewing.”
